Ministry of Culture Organizes International Museum Expo 2023 to Celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

New Delhi, May 19, 2023 – As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the Museums Division of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is marking International Museum Day. The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has designated this year’s theme as ‘Museums, Sustainability, and Well-Being.’

In line with the festivities, the Ministry of Culture is proud to present the three-day International Museum Expo 2023, scheduled to take place from the 18th to the 20th of May 2023 at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. The expo aims to stimulate comprehensive discussions on museums, envisioning them as cultural centers that play a vital role in India’s cultural diplomacy, particularly during India’s G-20 Presidency.

The Ministry encourages all schools to join in the celebration of International Museum Day by organizing various activities within their campuses. These activities can include engaging events such as quiz competitions, poster making competitions, and essay writing competitions. Additionally, schools are encouraged to arrange student tours to visit the nearest museums, enabling students to explore and appreciate India’s rich cultural heritage.

For schools located in the Delhi-NCR area, a special invitation is extended to both students and teachers to attend the Museum Expo held at Pragati Maidan from the 18th to the 20th of May 2023. This exhibition promises to offer an enriching and immersive experience, showcasing the diverse facets of India’s cultural treasures.

To ensure documentation and sharing of these celebratory moments, schools are requested to upload a brief report along with 2-3 photographs at the following link before the 23rd of May 2023: [https://forms.gle/yU9Wu3ickzgzCu1n7]

By actively participating in this event, schools can contribute to the promotion and preservation of India’s cultural heritage, fostering a sense of pride and appreciation among the younger generation.

The International Museum Expo 2023 represents an exceptional opportunity for students and teachers to engage with the rich tapestry of India’s history, art, and culture. By celebrating museums as catalysts for sustainability and well-being, the event promotes a profound understanding of our shared heritage and the importance of its preservation for future generations.
