Igniting Creativity and International Friendship: UPU 2024 Letter Writing Competition for Youth
In a bid to nurture the art of composition and foster international camaraderie among young minds, the Department of Posts is proud to announce the Universal Postal Union (UPU) 2024 – International Letter Writing Competition. This prestigious event aims to inspire the youth to express their thoughts with subtlety and creativity, contributing to the strengthening of global friendships.
Global Recognition for Young Wordsmiths
The International Bureau (IB) of UPU is spearheading this competition, tasked with selecting the three prize winners from each member country. These deserving winners will be bestowed with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, accompanied by certificates and additional prizes to commemorate their exceptional literary achievements. The gold medalist might even have the opportunity to embark on a journey to the UPU headquarters in Berne, Switzerland, or receive an alternative prize, as determined by the UPU.
National and Circle Level Recognition
At the national level, the Department of Posts will recognize and reward the best three entries with cash prizes and certificates. The entry deemed the best at the national level will proudly represent India in the UPU’s international competition. The competition encourages participants to compose their letters in English or any of the recognized languages listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Detailed information about the competition, along with rules for participation, is provided in Annexures I and II. The competition is voluntary, allowing interested students to showcase their literary prowess in a language of their choice.
Schools Encouraged to Participate
Principals across the country are invited to organize this enriching competition in their schools, collaborating with the Nodal Officers from their respective circles/regions, as successfully done in the previous edition in 2023.
