Adolescent Peer Educators Leadership Program, Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being

CBSE Celebrates 75th Batch Inauguration of Adolescent Peer Educators Leadership Program, Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being

New Delhi, July 10, 2023 – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is delighted to announce the inauguration of the 75th batch of the Adolescent Peer Educators Leadership Program, a pioneering initiative that focuses on mental health and well-being among students. Recognizing the significance of holistic development, CBSE has integrated Life Skills-based Health and Wellbeing Education into its curriculum, aiming to cultivate self-confidence, eco-sensitivity, and a lifelong learning mindset among learners.

To provide schools with a platform to facilitate Life Skills, Mental Health, and Holistic Wellness as integral components of education, CBSE has joined forces with Expressions India, a collaborative effort that has proven immensely successful. Commencing online on November 23, 2021, the program has empowered young minds and generated a sense of enthusiasm among peer educators, who have emerged as powerful agents of change. In a span of 74 batches, students and teachers/counselors from 1,730 schools across the country, approximately 7,200 students and 3,500 teachers/counselors, have actively participated in this prestigious training program from November 2021 to June 2023.

Building upon the ideas and vision of peer educators, CBSE has recommended enhancing the ongoing program by establishing Peer-led Life Skills, Mental Health, and Wellbeing centers or clubs within schools, guided by mentor teachers. This enhancement aims to create a sustainable platform for students to actively contribute to their own growth and that of their peers.

The primary objective of the Adolescent Peer Educators Leadership Program is to equip and empower students to foster a participatory climate for behavioral change and adaptation. By cultivating an inclusive environment that supports the psychosocial well-being and development of life skills in children and adolescents across the country, this program aligns with the larger vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Additionally, the program’s proceedings will be compiled from various sources to develop an effective model of best practices linked to Life Skills, Health, and Wellbeing for students in India.

The CBSE invites everyone to come together and celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the 75th Batch, a significant milestone in supporting the noble cause of peer-led leadership for social change. The celebration will commence on July 10, 2023, at 3:30 pm. CBSE kindly requests all principals and peer educators to unite in solidarity and extend their support to this program.
